Biography

Dr. Yikai Su received the Ph.D. degree in EE from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA in 2001, subsequently he worked at Crawford Hill Laboratory of Bell Laboratories. He joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2004, where he is currently a full professor leading a group to work on optical transmission and integrated photonics. His research areas cover silicon photonic devices for information transmission and switching. He has over 500 publications in international journals and conferences, and gave >70 invited talks at conferences including OFC and CLEO. He holds 7 US patents and ~70 Chinese patents. Recently, his group reported the first waveguide-coupled electric-pumped monolithic silicon laser (Light, vol. 12, no. 84, 2023), the smallest dielectric switch with topological waveguides (Light, vol. 11, no. 292, 2022), the highest electrical spectral-efficiency direct-detection integrated receiver (OFC 2022, Th4B.6, PDP and JLT vol. 41, no. 3, 2023), and the highest order mode MUX/DEMUX on SOI (OFC 2021, F3A.2, PDP).

Prof. Su serves as an advisory board member for ACS Photonics and APL photonics. He is the chair of IEEE Photonics Society Shanghai chapter. He also served as a general co-chair of ACP 2012/2021 and OECC 2023, a subcommittee chair of OFC D2 2023, and a TPC member of a large number of international conferences including CLEO (2016-2018), ECOC (2013-2017), OFC (2011-2013, 2020-2022), OECC 2008, CLEO-PR 2007, and LEOS (2005-2007). Prof. Su is a senior member of IEEE and a Fellow of Optica.

In China, he received the prestigious honors of distinguished young scientist from NSFC (杰青), and changjiang professor from the ministry of education (长江学者).
